Princess Leia on Bespin |
|||||
(Taking a break from the Amidala costumes, I thought I would try this one,
from "The Empire Strikes Back". This is the outfit that Leia changes into
when she and Han get invited to dinner with Lando while staying in the Cloud City of
Bespin. You know, right before Darth Vader shows up. The doll is the 1999
Portrait Leia celebration outfit. The rest of this will be done in a dialect of my
youth, "Valley Girl". Note: the below has actually been rewritten by my
daughter, who speaks this dialect far better than myself!) So, like, in practically ALL of "Empire", Princess Leia was, like, wearing this rilly rilly boring jump suit sorta thing that just SCREAMED, like, resident of Aspen? And not even nice Aspen, but, like, bargain-basement Aspen, and GAWD, don't get me started on those boots! And you KNOW she was just hating it. I mean, she wouldn't even play tonsil hockey with Han because she was so embarrassed! So, like, when babelicious Lando takes her up to his super-cool love pad (not like he's ANY competition for Han, natch - I mean, like, come on, Harrison FORD...), she gets a chance to get this fab new outfit. I mean, after all, once she got into a REAL city, not one of those fashion-refugee rebel bases, you know she's gotta go shopping. And that Cloud City looks like it has the BEST malls. Gotta love the white look. So this new outfit she's got, 'kay, is kinda like a robe and a pantsuit, 'cause the robe part was all white-ish and lacy, but then the underneath part is this totally kewl red color, with a rilly wide belt. Here, the robe part's an off-white lace with a quilted top, because it looked totally kewl over the red. And, like, of course both Han and Lando crush on her soooo bad! Lando even tells her that she looks like she "belonged with them amongst the clouds". Ooooohhh.... I mean, it's not quite "You need more scoundrels in your life", but GAWD, it's a start! So, 'kay, this is Leia showing off her new outfit to Han on Bespin (and, gawd, wouldn't you just DIE to have a pair of pants in that kewl pink/purple sky color?), and then she gets all supermodel-y in a couple of other pics. Her hair's still in that long braid, but it's all looped and tied with a red hair ribbon. And to go with it, of course, she's got the cutest black shoes!
